Wintering

Planting and care:

Best planting time:  spring or autumn
Planting location: sunny, with good air circulation.
Soil: light, well-drained (does not like waterlogging), with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction (pH 6.5−7.5).
Distance between plants: 40−60 cm
Watering: moderate, only after the soil has dried out
Winter protection: must be covered with spruce branches or spunbond in November.
Pruning: in early spring to shape the bush and after flowering to stimulate a new wave of flowering during the season.

Wintering

Less frost-resistant than narrow-leaved lavender. In open ground, it requires shelter or transplanting into a container for wintering in a cool, bright room (5−10°C).

Recommendations:

  • In autumn, carefully prune the inflorescences without touching the old shoots;
  • Cover the plant with a layer of mulch and spruce branches, construct an airy dry shelter from non-woven material, such as agrofibre or spunbond.
  • During harsh winters, it is advisable to transplant lavender into a container and bring it indoors.
